Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC)
Strategic Transit Policy Research Roadmap
InfraStrategies led a team that developed the Strategic Transit Policy Research Roadmap for the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC). This plan is intended to guide the research strategy for NVTC as it seeks to assist local agencies in improving public transit in the region.
Working alongside the Eno Center for Transportation (Eno), InfraStrategies worked with NVTC to map out how the Commission would pursue research opportunities over the next five years. We began by interviewing local and national thought leaders to determine where some of the best opportunities might be for research in transit that could have a substantial impact. We also interviewed peer organizations, such as regional think-tanks and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) that might pursue research agenda. Finally, we analyzed data and trends in the region to identify some of the challenges transit is facing.
InfraStrategies facilitated several workshops to narrow down the potential research opportunities including with NVTC staff, the Commissioners, and staff from local transit agencies. We also simultaneously worked with Eno to develop a parallel funding strategy for research, as well as recommendations for partnerships and research dissemination. Finally, we assembled all our findings into a strategic research plan. This is the plan that NVTC currently uses to guide all future research opportunities.
